Mookie Betts and the Boston Red Sox won their third consecutive AL East championship Thursday night, clinching on enemy turf with an 11-6 victory over the rival New York Yankees.
Never before had Boston finished in first place three years in a row. The club needs one victory to match the franchise record held by the 1912 World Series champions.

With the best record in baseball and a playoff berth already secured, Boston (104-49) closed out a once-tight division race with nine games to spare. J.D. Martinez and the Red Sox, alone in first place since July 2, will open the postseason at home in Fenway Park on Oct. 5 against an opponent to be determined.

Uploaded here are four really outstanding images from tonight’s New York Yankees/ Boston Red Sox game from Fenway park. Boston’s starting pitcher, RICK PORCELLO, threw a gem of a game, pitching a no-hitter for 6 innings, and allowing only 2 hits, no runs, no walks, while striking out 6 for seven innings.
Boston had a scare in the first inning when HANLEY RAMIREZ was hit on the wrist by a pitch thrown by the Yankee’s starting pitcher Sonny Gray and RAMIREZ had to leave the game. Fortunately, XRAYS subsequently showed that RAMIREZ suffered a contusion but no broken bones.
The Red Sox went on to win 6-3, taking the first 2 out 3 games in the series.

  • Trailing the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Boston Red Sox lead-off hitter MOOKIE BETTS hits a single to begin a Red Sox rally which tied the game 2-2. The Red Sox went on to win 3-2 in the bottom of the 12th inning on a bases-loaded single by HANLEY RAMIREZ.

Uploaded here are 6 selected images from today’s Red Sox home opener won by the Sox 3-2 in 12 innings. Based on the strong pitching of starter DAVID PRICE and reliever BOBBY POYNER coupled with the clutch hitting of HANLEY RAMIREZ, who drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning with a clutch hit with bases loaded, the Red Sox won their 6th straight game.
I am now headed for the New York Yankees home opener on April 2.
