  • Boston Red Sox starting pitcher, RICK PORCELLO, exits the game after allowing a tie-breaking two-run home run to GARY SANCHEZ in the fifth inning. PORCELLO(4 -5) left the game after allowing 5 runs in 4 2/3 inning. This was PORCELLO’S first time facing the Yankees since his series clinching victory at Yankee Stadium in game 4 of last year’s AL Division series.

    6 selected images  from tonight’s Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees game, won by the Yankees 5-3. The Yankees have now won 15 of their last 18 games and clinched their ninth straight series victory, a feat that the Yankees have not accomplished since 1998.  The Red Sox, on the other hand, have lost 6 out their last 8 games, and have fallen 9 ½ games behind the division leading Yankees. This may be the Yankees’ year.

    Joe Torre was honored prior to the game as part of  the pregame festivities recognizing Prostate Cancer month.

    Gary Sanchez hit his game tie-breaking 18th home run putting the Yankees ahead for good and Aroldis Chapman preserved the victory, his 17th save in 18 tries.

    ON the Red Sox side of the ledger, Xander Bogaerts went 3 for 3, with a game tying two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning.

  • Boston Red Sox starting pitcher, RICK PORCELLO, throws a strike to New York Yankees Aaron Hicks in the fifth inning at Yankee Stadium. PORCELLO held the Yankees to only 1 run and 4 hits for his first post season win. The Red Sox defeated the Yankees 4-3 to win the AL Division Series.

    Stars of the game were Red Sox starting pitcher, RICK PORCELLO, who held the Yankees to only 4 hits and one run over five innings for his first postseason victory; CHRIS SALE, who in a rare relief appearance, pitched a perfect 1-2-3 eighth inning to protect a 4-1 lead; and

    Boston Red Sox catcher, CHRISTIAN VASQUEZ, who hit the winning home run in the fourth inning to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.

    The Red Sox will now face last year’s World Series Champions, the Houston Astros, in the AL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES.

Boston’s starting pitcher, RICK PORCELLO, threw a gem of a game, pitching a no-hitter for 6 innings, and allowing only 2 hits, no runs, no walks, while striking out 6 for seven innings.
    Boston had a scare in the first inning when HANLEY RAMIREZ was hit on the wrist by a pitch thrown by the Yankee’s starting pitcher Sonny Gray and RAMIREZ had to leave the game. Fortunately, XRAYS subsequently showed that RAMIREZ suffered a contusion but no broken bones.
    The Red Sox went on to win 6-3, taking the first 2 out 3 games in the series.

  • 2016 American League Cy Young Award winner, Rick Porcello, throws the first pitch of the game in the Red Sox home opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates to leadoff hitter Adam Frazier. PORCELLO pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs and 6 hits leading the Red Sox to their first victory of the season 5-3 over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

    Included in this grouping are 7 selected images from today’s Boston Red Sox home opener where the Red Sox defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3.

    The hitting star was rookie left fielder, ANDREW BENINTENDI, who hit a three run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The two pitching stars were Boston Red Sox starter, and last year’s Cy Young award winner, RICK PORCELLO, who pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing 6 hits and three runs; and Red Sox closer CRAIG KIMBREL, who pitched the 9th inning without giving up a run.
