Super Bowl LI MVP Tom Brady throws out the first ceremonial pitch at the Boston Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park. The Red Sox defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3.
Included in this grouping are 7 selected images from today’s Boston Red Sox home opener where the Red Sox defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3.
The hitting star was rookie left fielder, ANDREW BENINTENDI, who hit a three run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The two pitching stars were Boston Red Sox starter, and last year’s Cy Young award winner, RICK PORCELLO, who pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing 6 hits and three runs; and Red Sox closer CRAIG KIMBREL, who pitched the 9th inning without giving up a run.
Philadelphia Phillies Manager, RYNE SANDBERG, and Boston Red Sox Manager, JOHN FARRELL, shake hands prior to the Phillies Home Opener at Citizens Bank Park. The Red Sox went on to defeat the Phillies 8-0.
LARRY LUCCHINO, President and CEO of the Boston Red Sox, makes a point during the Boston Red Sox opening game at Citizens Bank Park against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Red Sox went on to defeat the Phillies 8-0.
Philadelphia Phillies left fielder and super star, RHYS HOSKINS, hits an RBI double in the third inning against Miami Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards. Despite his efforts, the Miami Marlins defeated the Phillies 6-3.
Uploaded here are 5 selected images from today’s Marlins/ Phillies game, won by the Marlins 6-3. The game featured the much-anticipated Phillies debut of JAKE ARRIETA. While ARRIETA had a shaky start, giving upthree runs in the first inning, he settled down and held the Marlins scoreless for the next three innings. ARRIETA left the game after pitching 4 innings and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts. ARRIETA has now allowed 3 or fewer runs in 15 consecutive starts, which ranks his ERA third in the majors, trailing only Washington’s Stephan Strasburg and Cleveland’s Corey Kluber. ARRIETA was not the pitcher of record.
I am now off to Boston for Thursday’s New York Yankees/ Boston Red Sox game, which should be a thriller.
