At the age of 15, Tara Lipinski took home the Gold at the 1998 Nagano Olympics. She became the youngest individual Gold Medalist ever in Winter Games history. The record was previously held since 1928 by Figure Skater Sonja Henie.
Tara skated a flawless program during the Olympics, which included seven triples and her signature triple loop/triple loop jump combination. Known for her technical abilities and breaking records, Tara became the first female to land a triple loop triple loop in competition.
Leading up to the Olympics, Tara became the youngest National and World Champion, as well as the first skater to win two consecutive Grand Prix Final titles in 1997 and 1998.
In front of a giant crowd at the ’92 Barcelona Olympics, Gao Min of China spins during a dive making her hair stand on end. She won a gold medal in the finals of the women’s 3-meter springboard competition.
Sanya Richards-Ross flashes a winning smile after winning the women’s 400 meter event at the London Olympics.
Michael Johnson is the only male athlete in history to win both the 200 meter dash and 400 meterdash events at the same Olympics, a feat he accomplished at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Johnson is also the only man to successfully defend his Olympic title in the 400 m. Aside from his Olympic success Johnson accumulated eight gold medals at World Championships, and is thus tied with Carl Lewis for the second most gold medals won by a runner (second only to Usain Bolt).
